I guess this explains why my setup didn't work the first time I tried it with the ribbon cable - the ground pin not connected properly.
That solves the cabling -- now I need to tackle why the monitor is not seeing serial input from the SCC. Sent from my iPhone
Problem solved!
The source of the confusion is that the serial connector pins (P57 and P58) are numbered not as a header, as one might expect, but sort of like an IC (with top row backwards). I.E. instead of:
2 4 6 8 10
1 3 5 7 9
they are:
6 7 8 9 G
1 2 3 4 nc
(this is when you use a ribbon cable header -- a "DE-9" connector)
So now I understand Rich Leary's suggestions a little better, and I can see that (as he suggested) tha the best way to get ground to pin 5 of the serial cable is with a little jumper across the 2 far right pins.
