Re: [N8VEM: 19750] Re: Possible updates to the N8VEM SBC V2 BOM

For new parts I shop in this order.

Avnet express
Mouser
Digkey ( most items are 5 to 10% more than Mouser)

I avoid Jameco!

A part like the 74LS243 are from an older family of part, most have been replaced by 74ALS family or 74HCT, 74AHCT parts. In most cases the newer parts can replace the older ones. Also DIP packages have long ago lost out in favor of surface mounted parts in commercial projects. Making them a bit harder to find at reduced price. This make it harder for our projects.

Again, In most cases, a 22uf/10v capacitor can be replace with a larger part. Like 47uf/16v. As long as it fits in the board. It's not critical in most cases unless it's used in a timing circuit.

I often use surface mounted .1uf/50v capacitor to replace the axial wire lead capacitors used on most of our projects. I mount them on the back of the boards. Their cheaper and easy to find, and for me they take less time to install.

Getting use to substitution of parts is just part of the hobby!

I have nevvvver had a problem with Mouser. Their web site clearly shows their inventory. If you order something that is not in stock it shows as backordered before you complete the order.

As far as delivery speed, that depends on how far you live from the Dallas area. I have placed orders at 7 PM and get them the next day. That is 95 percent of the time. I am a 5 hour ride up I-30. For me Digikey takes 5 days.
