Oh, I forgot, I think I was expressing my experience about 7805's... I've never found one that shorted Vin to Vout.
Only some that have either failed entirely or have failed to put out enough current (ie, under a tiny load, they work)

From your email, it would appear you've never experienced a shorted 7805 either.
