RE: [N8VEM-S100:6946] RE: 386 SRAM board v06

Josh, they are coming down but they are still “state of the art”  SRAM chips (that are not BGA socketed).

Just FYI I am doing an updated 80386 (GAL based) version of that CPU board. The current prototype is running very reliably at 10MHz on the S100 bus, sometimes even 12MHz!

I am also doing a GAL based S100 bus 16MB static RAM board with these RAM chips.    These I hope will be the fastest possible RAM boards for the bus.  With GAL’s they are actually intrinsically quite simple.

Currently I am at a V3 prototype version of the 80486.  While that board will work with the board you have,  I am modifying our S100 bus “overhead 32 bit bus”  to include the 4 parity lines the 80486 uses.   This will in the future allows us to use 1-4GB DRAM Simms reliably on a board.  At this stage I cannot guarantee your current static RAM board would sit alongside such a board.  I’m also doing a 32 Mb (and 64MB depending on chips, same board)  GAL based SRAM board for the 80386 and 80486 board.

This is all a few months off before production boards but I wanted you (and others) to know other boards are in the works in case somebody is considering sinking one’s life savings into these static RAM chips.

That said,  I’m actually amazed how robust these chips are to heat.  Several times I have pulled them from boards (using a heat gun and adaptor), see:-

http://s100computers.com/My%20System%20Pages/16M%20RAM%20Board/16MG%20RAM%20Board.htm

and reseated them.

Hi Guys,

I'm looking around for the RAM to fill this SRAM board....

Wow, these chips get expensive.
Cheapest I found was from China... ugh.
Vendor is hkutsource  selling 10 for $37.50

Mouser has them for about $9.75 each.

I'm guessing they need to be 3.3V, TSOP48 right?

Thanks!
Josh
