Re: [N8VEM-S100:4223] Re: S-100 Bus Extender and S-100 Bus Terminator Boards Have Arrived

fyi...

the euro BC547 and BC557 are equiv to the 2N3906/4 parts and they are backwards...

I have a bag of 2N3906/4 here that are backwards from the "standard TO92 pkg from Fairchild/Moto/ONSEM", I suspect that they are just remarked parts... they do not have a manufacture label on them...

so one must be careful... This has caused me issues in the past...

We had this same issue with the S100 bus extender board.  Might be worthwhile somebody putting together a list of MFG’s and the transistor orientation for these two common (and often used with our boards)  transistor.

I just checked the datasheets on Fairchild 2N3904 & 2N3906.

Both TO-92 package have the same footprint and orientation for EBC.

O perfect. More 'variables'.

Thanks for the heads up Tom.

Something to look at.   Some vendors of 2n3906/04 and other small single transistors have different pin orientation for their parts in TO92 case. C and E are swaped.  Look at the vendors data sheet for your part, not a generic one.

Rich,

I don't know if version 2 of the backplane suffers from the same error.

I'm not even sure what version of the board I have. However I'm pretty

sure mine is wrong. A peek with a magnifine glass shows the square

pad on Q1 is opposite of Q2. Looks like I have to swap the orientation

of Q1. I have not tested the backplane yet.

I have Version 02 of the 8-slot backplane (uncompleted) and Q1 has the same footprint error. Is the fix to put the transistor in opposite to the silkscreen?

I was looking at the S-100 18 slot backplane and saw notes on the incorrect
footprint on transistor Q1.

I have the 8 slot version and have no such notes on Q1. When I  pull up the docs from
the wiki I see that Q1 suffers from the same error.

Can those of you that have the 8 slot board running confirm this board suffers from the same error?

Are any 18 slots boards available?

Thank you.

Please let me know if you'd like any.  The usual price of $20 each plus $5.95 shipping in the US.  If you're outside the US then I'll

let you know the actual postage once I have the package set up and weighed.

If you ordered other boards and want them to ship together that's no problem either.

Thank you!
