RE: [N8VEM-S100:2278] Shugart 800 floppy drive repair

Neil, what exactly has failed. Will it seek, move to track zero (restore) with a restore command if the head is wound inwards.  Are you just getting misreads.  Often on the latter I have seen people toss drives only to see that the problem was buildup of oxide on the read/write heads.  It appears as a streak on the glass like surface of the head(s) and often has to be carefully scraped off with a blade.

Subject: [N8VEM-S100:2278] Shugart 800 floppy drive repair

One of my Shugard 800 floppy drives has finally failed; I'd like to send both my drives in to be fixed, calibrated and aligned etc. I see several links on Google for companies that repair drives. Does anyone have any experience with getting a drive repaired? Any recommendations?
