I think that 5-wire serial (UART/TTL) should be supported for those desiring hardware flow control (RTS/CTS).

IF future board designs include the usage of the standard 6-pin header (option for builder to install) being used by Arduino and FTDI cables,
THEN you have easy USB support on a temporary or full-time basis for the board.
The 6-pin interface also includes a +5 VDC line .... which could "light" an LED when the USB "A" connector is attached to a PC.
Of course, it could also be used for other purposes, with additional components.
