Re: [N8VEM-S100:3592] Re: Run of Dual CF-Card/Hard Disk IDE S-100 Boards

David -

After MYIDE initializes the "Select B" led is lit, and the display shows 00:00:01
I'm under the impression that the left slot (facing the front of the board) is "A".
I've used the schematic linked to on the John's site.
My CPU is an ADC SuperSIx set at 4mhz.  There shouldn't be any I/O conflicts with the 30H range, and the drives will select correctly when manually outputting to 034H with the monitor.

I have one of the earlier single IDE cards which seems to work properly using the same IDE==>CF adapter and CF card.  Obviously I can't test the drive switching with that setup. I did have to play around with the 7404 as noted on John's page - and ended up using an oddball 74PC04 in that setup.

Any suggestions are very appreciated.  I tried paralleling a second 680 ohm SIP with no improvement.  I don't currently have a 74S03 here, but have tried 7403, 74LS03, 7438 and 74LS38.

Hi John,

yes, sure.

Gary,
I need to establish a few things first, if you could address each point it will help speed up what is going on.

1) When the S100-IDE card initialises which led's light up D18 or D19 (any others)
2) which CF card socket do you think is Slot A
3) what is the date on the schematic you are using to come to this conclusion.
4) what CPU card are you using

David you were the one that brought up that IDE drive “A” & “B”  labeling etc. on that V2 to V2a board. Do you have time to look into it. Do you have a V2a board.

It's the V2a board that Ed just mailed out this week.

I've also tried decreasing the pull up resistors on the 7403's to 330 ohm.

I noticed that David Fry has suggested using a 74S03 in his notes, unfortunately I don't have any here to try.

Is this the older V2 board or the newer V2a board

Assembled a dual IDE board this evening, and am having an interesting problem.

I'm using 2 Syba IDE-->CF cards with 128mb CF Flash (have also tried some 4mb Kingston types).

If I output directly to ports I can control the hex display and select drive "A" or "B", although the "A" and "B" drive LED's seem reversed.

Using MYIDE.COM it will only initialize if both drives are present, and then I can't select drive "B" from the program.  It will access and format drive "A" just fine.

I've tried swapping 74LS03's out, and changing them to 7403, 74LS38 and 7438 types with no improvement.  I've also swapped out every other chip on the board, and resoldered everything.

Any ideas of where to look?
