That would be unlikely.  There are a lot of very good reasons that web browsers (and JavaScript programs within them) are not given direct access to filesystems or devices.  Remember ActiveX, and the horrible things it could do to your computer if you let it run a malicious script? :-)

But yes, it's a really neat concept.  I'm seeing these a lot as browsers and their JavaScript interpreters become more powerful.  I remember the days when even a Telnet app in Java (which is a much more efficient language than JavaScript) was taxing to run.
