RE: [N8VEM-S100:5798] Propeller Console board

I've begun reading John's write up.  I still need to complete my reading, but if I understand it, the Propeller CPU boots up by reading the EEPROM.  So, basically, the EEPROM is the Firmware, but the Propeller copies it into RAM for execution.  That's great news, I have EEPROM programmers.  Thank God I don't need yet another programmer!  :) Josh

Josh...

I used the source of the spin file from Johns site to build and burn the EEPROM with my Prom/EEProm VP-290 programmer, I did NOT install any of the special stuff on John board to load via serial or the special Parallax programmer card....

Hi John,

I downloaded the CONSOLE IO files from the wiki site.

Are there more files somewhere else?
Do I need to compile those "SPIN" files or is there a compiled binary file somewhere else?
How do I program the Propeller chip? Does it require a special programmer? or does it have a boot loader built into it?
How does my software use this console I/O board to send a character and read the keyboard?

Thanks,
Josh Bensadon

Folks are starting to get the switches for the FP mini board and asking
about
a switch bracket.

The switch bracket has two important purposes. One is for the
positioning of the
switches when you solder them in. I've tried doing this without a
bracket and it's
very difficult to get them lined up perfect without some sort of jig.

I already have a quote from sheet metal fabricator here in town to
produce one.
In small quantities it was $15 USD.

I'm thinking that I can do these on my mill, probably five or six at a
time for just the
cost of materials. I already have drill bits and tap for the tiny
screws. I'm going to give it
a try this week.

If your interested in a bracket please let me know so I can gage the
interest level.

We may be to produce a few and pass them onto other builders on a 'loaner'
basis. However my original plan was to use the bracket for installation
and as a
strain relief in the chassis.

Please feel free to send along your ideas and suggestions.

Thank you.
